The Ultimate Anniversary Donut CakeSep 11, 2013
Today, is my wedding anniversary (four years and counting!) and, every year, there are three things my husband, Aaron, and I do to celebrate our special day. First, we choose something new to experience together. Last year, we participated in an interactive theater show in NYC and the year before that we went to Spa World in Washington, DC, the largest Korean spa I have ever seen. This year, we are whooping it up in a swanky hotel in Las Vegas like a true tourist to see what that's all about. Second, my hubby finds a new way to propose to me again. It's kind of like re-upping the lease on our marriage. This is our way of being mindful that we are choosing to be together and not to take our commitment for granted. And, I'll be honest, I get such a kick out of being proposed to and this is my way of getting to experience every possible scenario. Last, but definitely not least, we get ourselves a delicious cake that we design ourselves to add sweetness to the day. I mean, I make cake stands for a living so it's not hard to justify getting cake now is it? So, without further ado, here is the confectionary masterpiece we came up with this year. This Ultimate Anniversary Donut Cake was made by A La Mode, an organic, vegan and gluten-free bakery located in Las Vegas. And, yes, it's delish! It's true. In fact, it's moist, chocolately and I guarantee you would not be able to tell it was gluten and dairy-free. As stated on A La Mode's website, "One dessert at a time, we're putting an end to the tasteless vegan and gluten free treats you once knew. No longer will cardboard or tasteless be your thoughts. You may, however, find yourself yumming the words...delicious, moist, perfectly sweet and flavorfully rich." I can attest that their goodies will satisfy even the most discerning sweet tooth. For our cake design, we were inspired by the donuts that A La Mode offers and decided to combine them into our cake. We chose mini versions of the maple-glazed (for Aaron) and chocolate glazed (for me) and had them placed on top and around the cake. For the cake, we chose the same flavors from our wedding, chocolate cake filled with chocolate ganache and frosted with vanilla buttercream. The taste always brings me back to that special day. To complete our anniversary donut-cake presentation, we chose to display the cake on a Dark Chocolate Cake Stand. The rich color of the cake stand is a perfect compliment to the chocolate cake and I love the contrast with the vanilla buttercream. But, you can be certain, this cake will not last long on our cake stand. It will take us two days at most to polish off this yummy goodness. And, no, I will not feel guilty about eating all that cake. It's my anniversary and I'm going to celebrate! How do you celebrate your anniversary? Do you have any traditions that make the day special? A big thank you to A La Mode - Organic, Vegan, Gluten-Free. Online delivery only bakery. www.alamodelv.com or (702) 706-2563.
