April is over and we are now getting full swing into Summer! It certainly has been a long winter. I am more than a little excited for some pool time and drinks with little umbrellas in them. Also, I am so looking forward to the fact our Ivory colored cake stands are going to be back in stock for a limited time and for all my new cake plates that are coming out. I am enjoying so much all the flowers that went into bloom in my garden! There was that crazy Game of Thrones battle scene, and have you seen Endgame yet? What can I say it's a very exciting time! Now let’s look back at the April Sweets:
Game of Thrones Wedding Cake
I have loved this show since the very first episode. I am not usually a big fan of sword and dragon entertainment, so that is saying something. I totally understand the eruption in Game of Thrones themed weddings and cakes. Just please for everyone's sanity, don't make it a red velvet wedding cake (if you have not seen the show just trust me on this one). If you haven't yet had the pleasure of being asked to craft a Game of Thrones cake, start sketching now because the cakes are coming. And if you do get asked, just go with it and have fun. People love this show and it’s always fun to be a part of something people are passionate about. If you need some inspiration, you can check out all these wonderful Game of Thrones cakes on Pinterest. There are also these Game of Thrones themed wedding from the Off Beat Bride, or this one from The Bridal Guide. If you have any show questions for a cake, just shoot me an email. Only please understand that it may not be answered on Sunday Nights for the next 3 weeks because: Winter Is Here!
Wedding Cake Pop Star Battle
The Ultimate Reality star wedding cake showdown went down this month on the Food Network, Duffy vs Buddy. Duffy, best known for his Baltimore Based show Ace of Cakes, and Buddy, best known for his New York-based show Cake boss, have been facing off in a multi-week cake showdown. This past week we finally got to the episode I had been waiting for, the Wedding Cake battle! They both showed off two wonderful cakes. Personally, I am pulling for Duff, but that is only because his Baltimore bakery Ace of Cake has used dozens of our cakes stands. So Buddy, if you want to even things up, shoot me an email and let's get your cakes on some better looking cake stands! For full details on the show check out this write up.
A Cake That Caught My Eye
In this months A Cake That Caught My Eye, we take a look at a cake that proves less is more. This elegantly simple cake from Kaked By Katie has sharp clean crisp lines that are emphasized by the delicate round flower petals. Such a wonderful piece of sugar art looks right out of MOMA in New York. My Sweet & Low cake stand is the ideal partner for this cake with it's own sharp clean lines and low profile. To see more great cakes like this one, make sure to follow us on Instagram.
Ivory Colored Cake Stands are Back
Question of the Month
Last month we took a look at the popularity of cake plates, the flatter shorter sister of the cake stand:
Roughly what percentage of your customers prefer a cake plate to a pedestal cake stand?
- 50% - None, who wants a cake plate?
- 0% - 25% or less
- 17% - about half of them
- 0% - roughly 75%
- 33% - All of them!
Well, this one was all over the place. About half of you said no one wants a cake plate. And for those bakers, have no fear our cake stands are not going anywhere. But about a third of you said all your customers prefer a cake plate to a pedestal, and at long last Sarah's Stands will have you covered! I found some really fun cake plates that will be released over the next several weeks. You can check out the first of them now.
This month, I want to ask you about all these crazy themed weddings:
