In celebration of the release of my newest cake stand, the Little Miss Perfect, I asked some of my favorite Miss Perfect cake bakers to show off their sugar art and up next is a doubly sweet surprise. The Little Miss Perfect is not only a stand-alone cake stand but also works as a complementary display to my Picture Perfect cake stand. And so, when the amazingly talented Rachael Teufel of Intricate Icings Cake Design crafted her sugar art, she made not one but two works of art!
I love that Rachael was able to capture how the two cake stand styles can work together through the complimentary design of the black and white cake designs. And, can we talk about the gorgeous mix of metallics in the flower details? Check out the pics below to see how both cake designs came together!
Rachael Teufel is an award-winning cake designer whose work you have undoubtedly seen before. She has been seen on the Food Network Challenge, The Today Show, in the pages of Brides, Martha Stewart Weddings, and The Knot. She has been named one of Martha Stewart Weddings' top pastry pros in the country and Brides Magazine's "Top 100 Bakeries.” Oh, and she was featured as a Sarah's Stands Baker spotlight!
Which cake took longer to create, the black beauty or the white wonder?
The black beauty cake has a lot more detail to it and definitely took longer than the white wonder.
What was your biggest challenge in making these cakes?
Working with a single color palette to create multiple textures is always a challenge. Black on black or white on white designs make it difficult to actually see the decor. Finding the right texture that reflects the light is key to making sure the decorations don't get lost.
How do feel the cakes and cake stands work together?
The wonderful thing about these stands is that their simplistic look goes with just about any design depending on the color scheme. And, in both the black and white cake designs the gold stands help the decor pop even more, giving another element of style.
If you could direct the next big trend in wedding cakes, what would it be?
All purple!!! Oh wait, that's already the color of the year! ;) I do love color on cakes though and wish more couples would venture away from the all-white wedding cake. I think with black cakes being so hot this year, my guess is that solid colored cakes will, in general, become more popular, too. I have a cake coming up this summer that very well could be the next trend in cakes so I'm going to keep my thoughts to myself on this question and see how things go. I'll keep you posted though! ;)
Which baking tool could you not live without?
I love my dresden tool. It has a pointed end and a rounded end that makes decorating super easy. I can do just about any decorating technique with one tool!
If someone is interested in having you make a cake, what is the best way to contact you?
The contact form on my website or email is best as I'm not always in the office to pick up the phone.
The Little Miss Perfect is made of carbon steel and can easily support the weight of large, heavy cakes. It's available now in sizes 12 inch & 14 inch, and in colors white, gold and (new!) navy blue.
